Playgroup Programme

Play-Group Programme (Non-Centre Based)

The Play-Group Programme in the Nkomazi and Mbombela Areas are working together with traditional leaders and the community in 18 different villages.  We started in 2012 and Ntataise provide an informal environment where vulnerable children (not able to go to a pre-school) are given ECD skills through informal playgroups. This Programme provide ECD training to unemployed matriculants. It also creates a forum where caregivers of children can learn skills i.e. making toys out of waste, gardening and information regarding children’s rights and their children’s education.

Facilitators are doing weekly Planning Lessons and Kit Training.  This programme is not a substitute for a formal Pre-school.  This Programme reach and assist the Grandmothers who are looking after their deceased children’s children to refer them to the specific Departments to obtain ID’s and birth certificates. The maximum number of children per playgroup is 25.

Funding received from different stakeholders enable us to provide them with the necessary training skills, toys, unperishable food and bread per centre. Each Caregiver receives a stipend from IDT for 9 months of the year.
